If you are coming from /r/bitcoin because of a spam message, then we are sorry. Please read this.

So it seems someone is creating some hours old account and sending private messages to a lot of people in the /r/bitcoin community linking to this subreddit.

Whoever is doing this is doing it on their own and is not related to our community at all

Since we had problems with spam before, very young accounts can't even post on this subreddit. I have no idea who might be doing this but they have admitted doing it and are using a lot of hours old accounts.

• This forum is for discussions about the technology behind ethereum, it's impact on society and implementations. We ask Price speculation and all kinds of rollercoaster drama to be moved to /r/ethtrader so spamming because of price is not in the spirit of this community

• The Ethereum foundation and most of the developers here own bitcoin and the ethereum technology owns bitcoin its own existence. The current Bitcoin debacle brings us no joy.

• If you are looking for uncensored bitcoin information I personally recommend /r/btc and /r/bitcoin_uncensored and /r/cryptocurrency

• Unfortunately while we can and we do ban sock puppets, we can't do anything about direct messages.

Hi there. We are aware of the issue and are dealing with the spammy accounts. The person or people behind it know what they are doing though so we are playing Whack-A-Mole with them at the moment.
It seems to have calmed down of late though. Have you gotten any recent reports?

UPDATE - Jan 27

After a quiet period, I'm getting more reports of the spam account and have even received one myself (again). Also we are working to delete a lot of spammy comments and posts claiming they sell ether.

Finally, we've had reports of someone impersonating Ethereum developers on IRC and attempting to scam people by selling ether. Please pay attention and do not fall for that!
